Marissa and Dan were married on a seasonal day in October along the beautiful shoreline in Fairfield, Connecticut.
The couple opted for our Month-Of Management package so they handled the majority of the pre-planning on their own but knew the help of a professional in those final weeks leading up to the big day would be needed. Throughout the planning, the couple was living in D.C. so most of our communication was over phone and email. Many of our clients are planning from a distance so we completely understood the nuances that go into a “destination” wedding!
A few months before the wedding day, I always have my Month-Of clients forward all copies of their vendor contracts so I can read through and become acquainted with who they have chosen to work with and familiarize myself with their contracts. It’s important to me to really have a grasp on the big picture – all the who, what, where and how questions that create a seamless wedding day.
We scheduled our first planning session to take place at the venue while the couple was in the area visiting family. We talked timeline, layout, ceremony location, rain back-up plans as well as their desire for a laid-back, casual beachside wedding. They wanted their guests to feel welcomed and relaxed the entire day (which we love!)
Their wedding day was structured differently than most – we actually started with cocktail hour, ceremony in the middle and reception after that. And it worked out perfectly! Marissa and Dan knew they wanted to do a First Look which afforded them the opportunity to spend cocktail hour with their friends and family. The weather was perfect to host cocktail hour on the back deck overlooking the Long Island Sound. Many guests ventured down to the beach to stick their toes in the sand (with a cocktail in hand, of course!)
Their caterer whipped up a feast consisting of a giant dish of seafood paella, Mexican street corn salad and a huge taco station (ummm yes please!!!) Guests danced all night to music by Tangled Vine band with a full moon and sounds of the ocean in the background. It was everything these two had hoped for – beautiful yet simple, relaxed yet fun and a day they will cherish forever.
Marissa and Dan – thank you so much for trusting me with your wedding day! It was a pleasure to be a part of your celebration and I wish you two many years of love and happiness.
