Alyssa & Jeremy's Fall Wedding at Latitude 41 in Mystic, Connecticut

Alyssa and Jeremy were married on October 12, 2020. Yes, that is a Monday and yes, that is the year of the Covid pandemic. And no, this was not the original plan!

So quick back story, Alyssa & Jeremy (two of the nicest souls to walk the face of this earth) came to me in May 2020 to plan their November 2021 wedding. Jeremy is an officer in the United States Coast Guard and happened to be stationed down in the Mystic area. When they moved here, it was with the thought that this would be a longer duration.

So we started our planning. We booked our venue, photographer, florist, DJ, all of it. On September 20, 2020, Alyssa and I had a phone call and she told me they would need to move their wedding date up. Literally the exact opposite of every other 2020 couple! She was hoping for the winter but with the unknowns surrounding Covid, and given the fact that at that point in time, we were allowed indoor capacity up to 100 people with minimal restrictions, I strongly urged her to do it sooner. We compared schedules and I asked if she was open to Columbus Day (yep, as in 3 weeks from the day of our call). She said she could make it work and I promised her I could make it happen.

With no time to waste, I quickly explained the situation to our vendor team and everyone jumped right in to readjust the plans. At this point, we were all expert wedding reschedulers!

Their wedding day was here before we knew it. The day was smaller than initially planned (we had hoped for 75 people but with the change of plans, it ended up being closer to 35) but there was no lack of energy and love!

Alyssa and Jeremy were married outside overlooking the water on the lawn at Latitude 41. They made a statement exit after saying their “I Do’s” with a traditional military sword arch. Guests then moved up to the tented patio for cocktail hour before taking their seats inside for the reception.

All Alyssa kept saying throughout the night was how happy she was we did it this way. She loved having a more intimate celebration and was actually glad it worked out the way it did. She and Jeremy truly got to spend time with those closest to them. Plus they had more time to tear it up on the dance (which they did!)

Two days after their wedding, this beautiful email from Alyssa popped into my inbox.

Thank you SO much for everything. Everything was SO amazing and we are actually so in love with our intimate little wedding. We actually have talked about how we are happy that we decided to trim the guest list and have just immediate family and close friends there. It’s funny, because people tend to think that the bigger the wedding, the more fun, but all of our guests told us how great of a time they had and even said “we think everyone should do a small wedding!”

I cannot express enough how grateful we are for you and making our dream wedding happen. We have said, if we are still around/in the northeast when we have a baby, we are definitely recruiting you for all our future event planning needs! I can’t believe how amazing all of the choices we made turned out to be and it’s 100% thanks to you! You definitely did not lead us astray in any vendor selection because everyone was amazing! We received so many compliments about our vendor team.

When planning a wedding, the moral of the story is to always remember WHY you are doing this. It’s not for a showy affair with the most elaborate table settings or getting caught up in trivial things that in the end don’t matter. It’s about solidifying the love between you and your partner and sharing that experience with the people you love the most. Alyssa and Jeremy were the epitome of two people that understood the WHY behind getting married and embraced the challenges we faced along the way.

Mr. & Mrs. Somplasky, you two are incredible! Sending all the love to you both and thank you for hiring me for your Mystic wedding!
